The Emirates Islamic Bank innovates for women

11/24/2008
Innovation

The Emirates Islamic Bank pioneered a banking branch solely for women in Dubaï. Indeed, women will benefit from a financial zone free of men, as well as custom-banking products like for example retail-outlet discounts, special travel packages and discounts on bank products, exclusive ladies lounges, free Internet and text-message banking. The bank has wanted to take into account individuals needs as part of its business model, as the new consideration of women proves it. The bank understands the value and the role of women in the development of the society. For that reason, it wants to encourage them in their personal ambitions by giving them the means to succeed.

Perspective
We could ask us whether such means should be considered as a positive sign of progress showing Arab women's increasing involvement in the world of business, or on the contrary, as a dreary sign of increased gender segregation in the Persian Gulf. We could make the parallel with the special credit card launched by the First Gulf Bank in 2006. The card, like the features launched by the Emirates Islamic Bank, aims to give women financial freedom and value-added benefits.
